Artistic Impressions: International Students Explore Brunswick’s Contemporary Art Scene

BY AWCPD Event & Media Team

Melbourne, VIC – On 18 October 2025 – The Artistic Impressions: A Guided Art Tour invited international students to discover Melbourne’s thriving contemporary art scene through a day of exploration, discussion, and inspiration. The event was organised by the Australia Women and Children Protection Development (AWCPD) under the Victoria Art & Cultural Trail program, as part of the State Government’s Study Melbourne Inclusion Program (SMIP) with support from Study Melbourne.

As the final event in the VACT program, this guided tour offered participants a memorable cultural experience across some of Brunswick’s most dynamic art galleries.

A GUIDED JOURNEY THROUGH CONTEMPORARY ART

It was an honour to have Dr. Angelina Mirabito as our art guide, who led students through a curated selection of Brunswick galleries — including Hillvale Gallery, Unassigned Gallery, Counihan Gallery, and Neon Parc. Each stop offered a glimpse into Melbourne’s vibrant creative community, from photography and inclusive art spaces to social justice–driven works and contemporary masterpieces.

Through guided commentary and interactive discussion, participants gained insight into the artists’ stories, creative processes, and the cultural themes behind the artworks. Many remarked on how the experience deepened their understanding of Melbourne’s art landscape and offered a refreshing way to engage with local creativity.

CELEBRATING MELBOURNE’S ARTISTIC COMMUNITY

Brunswick, known for its creative spirit and inclusive art culture, provided the perfect backdrop for this closing event of the VACT program. From emerging artists’ experimental works to established creators represented in major Australian collections, the day highlighted the diversity and accessibility of Melbourne’s art scene.

The Artistic Impressions: A Guided Art Tour reflected how art can bring people together — inspiring curiosity, dialogue, and appreciation beyond borders. It also reaffirmed Melbourne’s reputation as one of the world’s most student-friendly and culturally vibrant cities, where international students can thrive both academically and artistically.

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS AND STUDENT LIFE

“The galleries showed such different styles, but they all made me think about culture and creativity in new ways,” shared one student participant. “It was great to explore with others who are also living and studying in Melbourne.”

Beyond art appreciation, The Artistic Impressions tour created opportunities for connection and cultural exchange among international students from diverse backgrounds. Participants shared reflections, asked questions, and engaged in thoughtful dialogue about how art expresses identity and community values.

LOOKING BACK AT THE VACT PROGRAM

Over the past few months, the Victoria Art & Cultural Trail (VACT) has offered a series of free and creative experiences for international students across Victoria — from the Indigenous Art & Soul Tour to sketching workshops, art tours, and cultural discovery days. Each event aimed to foster a sense of belonging, promote cross-cultural understanding, and encourage artistic exploration as part of student life in Melbourne.

As the 2025 program concludes, Artistic Impressions stands as a fitting finale — celebrating creativity, connection, and the power of art to build community.
