Conservation Creation: Tree Planting & Art Experience Recap – National Tree Day with a Twist

BY AWCPD Event & Media Team

Melbourne, VIC – On 27 July 2025, in celebration of National Tree Day, international students from across Melbourne came together for a vibrant mix of environmental action and creative expression at the Conservation Creation Event in Stanley Reserve, Mount Waverley. Organised by the Australia Women and Children Protection Development (AWCPD) under the Victoria Art & Cultural Trail program, as part of the State Government’s Study Melbourne Inclusion Program (SMIP) with support from Study Melbourne.

Under the supervision of the City of Monash Council, this exclusive event invited students to roll up their sleeves and take part in Australia’s largest community tree-planting initiative. With shovels in hand and smiles on their faces, participants planted native species to help revegetate the local area — making a direct contribution to ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.

DIG. PAINT. CONNECT

Designed exclusively for international students, the event created a welcoming space for connection and cultural exchange. Students from across the globe came together, working side by side to plant trees, share stories, and build friendships grounded in a shared commitment to the environment.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION & MEMORABLE MOMENTS

From muddy hands to bright smiles, the day was full of moments that captured the spirit of teamwork, creativity, and environmental care. Participants explored native ecosystems, picked up sustainable practices, and saw how small local actions can create lasting impact.

Conservation Creation captured the true spirit of National Tree Day — uniting people through care for the environment and community. By planting trees and expressing their creativity, international students proved that environmental action can also be a celebration of culture, connection, and hope for a more sustainable future.
