BY AWCPD Event & Media Team

Melbourne, VIC – On 14 June 2025, international students embarked on an immersive journey through Melbourne Museum’s iconic galleries during the Guided Indigenous Art & Soul Tour, organised by the Australia Women and Children Protection Development (AWCPD) under the Victoria Art & Cultural Trail program, as part of the State Government’s Study Melbourne Inclusion Program (SMIP) with support from Study Melbourne. This exclusive event offered a curated exploration of Victoria’s rich history, diverse cultures, and natural wonders, providing participants with deep insights into the museum’s world-class collections.

IMMERSIVE DISCOVERY AT MELBOURNE MUSEUM

The tour began with a warm welcome from expert guides, who set the stage for an engaging exploration of the museum’s most captivating spaces, showcasing the history of Victoria, Aboriginal cultures, and the history of the museum itself.

Highlights of the Journey

Dinosaurs & Natural History Galleries

Participants encountered towering dinosaur skeletons, rare fossils, and interactive displays showcasing Australia’s unique biodiversity – from prehistoric megafauna to delicate ecosystems.

Forest Gallery & Victorian Landscapes

A walk through the lush indoor rainforest revealed Victoria’s ecological treasures, while exhibits on Melbourne’s social history highlighted the city’s evolution.

Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre

Students delved into the living traditions of Victoria’s First Peoples, exploring artefacts, art, and multimedia displays that honour one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures, with connections to Country extending back tens of thousands of years.

Following the guided experience, attendees enjoyed free time to revisit favorite exhibits, savor refreshments at the museum café, and browse the Museums Victoria Store for unique souvenirs from local artisans. The event not only helped participants deepen their understanding of Victoria’s past and present but also encouraged reflection on the importance of cultural exchange and respect.
